How fortunate I feel to be alive and able to contribute to life in 2013.  Yes!

Bill and I drove to the States to spend Christmas and enjoyed visiting with family more than ever before.  It was a special time of sharing and being with my three sisters and nieces and nephews.

We took a hotel room with a kitchen to be able to prepare some of our food. And, of course, we ate lots of meals out.  So returning to Edmonton, Bill and I decided it was time for a good cleansing.  We are juicing for 3 or 4 days and  Bill started with a gallbladder cleanse. We shared all the recipes we created at the end of this article along with the gallbladder cleanse instructions.

I knew cleansing would be good because of all the commercial food we ate on our trip.  And I came home with a bit of sore throat and deep voice. I haven’t had a cold or flu for 3 or 4 years, so this was shocking. Addressing it immediately, it never developed into a cold and vanished within 2 days.  And it was an obvious indication that the immune system could be strengthened. I knew a good cleansing would support my whole body. So I asked Bill about our doing a three-day juice cleanse together. He was eager to join me.

For juicing you want lots of  organic veggies and fruits on hand. We bought kale, parsley, cilantro, celery, cucumber, carrots, beets, parsnips, Granny Smith apples and other green applies, pears, kiwi, lemon, lime and fresh ginger.  These foods yield juice that is so delicious, so nourishing and deeply satisfying, I’m amazed we haven’t done this juice cleanse again and again.

The first day of juicing brought up lots of mucous. Also, it gave more mental clarity and higher energy. What could be better?  Today, at the end of the cleanse, I feel in touch with the core strength of my body. The mental clarity is amazing and everything perceived is crisp and clear.  There is heightened confidence in my abilities, and I notice excess pounds melting away. Yeah.

So, if you’re inspired, try the following recipes. Your body will thank you.  We will continue juicing one meal a day to garner the extraordinary benefits.

JUICING RECIPES—

MORNING JOY

1½ Granny Smith apples, remove core and seeds before juicing
4 stalks celery
½ bunch cilantro
Juice all and enjoy.  This is delicious, cleansing and energizing.

 LUNCH BLISS

4 medium carrots                                                 small golden beet
1 parsnip                                                              1/2 bunch parsley
½ English cucumber                                          1/3 lemon
Juice all the ingredients, and you’ll relish the sweet, fresh, rich satisfaction this provides.

 UMMMM GOOD

 1 apple, remove seeds and core                     ½ kiwi
½ stalk broccoli                                               1 small golden beet
2 carrots                                                          2 celery stalks
Large handful of sunflower sprouts            slice of lime
Delicious.  Enjoy.

GREEN AND CLEAN

2” piece fresh ginger                                            1/3 lemon
1 bunch kale                                                       ½ bunch parsley
2 green apples, remove core and seeds             ½ English cucumber
This juice is very cleansing and purifying to the liver.  Enjoy its kick.

 EVENING NURTURE

4 celery                                                                    4 carrots
1/3 lemon                                                              ½ bunch parsley
1 pear, remove core and seeds
This provides a filling, exotic taste.

 SWEET AND SOOTHING

1 Granny Smith apple, remove core and seeds
3 carrots
1 stalk broccoli, use the stem and the top parts as well
3 celery stalks     
1 small beet
1/2” fresh ginger
This recipe makes a wonderful evening meal.

 AWAKE AND GRATEFUL

1 large Granny Smith apple, remove core and seeds
1 stalk broccoli, use all of stalk and top parts
2 celery stalks
2 kiwi fruit, including peeling
Large handful of sunflower sprouts
½ bunch parsley
¼ lime, including peeling
This is a fresh morning drink that wakes you up.  I found it the most filling of all the juices.  Give it a try.  Bill also loved it.

 WOW

 ½ English cucumber                                        ½ bunch parsley
2 large carrots                                                    ½ parsnip 
½ golden beet                                                     ½ apple, any variety
Also, add a slice of lime or lemon or 1” piece fresh ginger vary the taste of this juice.  This is a delicious happening.

LIVER, GALL BLADDER RENEWAL—From Paul Pitchford’s book, “Healing with Whole Foods.”

One can quickly purge the gall bladder of stones and sediment with a one-day ritual. The simplest and most effective way, according to Pitchford, is  described in the following quote from his book:

“In the morning and throughout the day, eat only apples, preferably organic, as many as desired, but at least four or five.  Apples of the green variety seem most effective, although all apples will help soften the stones.  Water and herbal teas are also allowed.

At bedtime, warm up two-thirds of a cup of virgin olive oil to body temperature and mix in one-third cup of fresh lemon juice.  Slowly sip the entire mixture, and then immediately go to bed, laying on the right side, with the right leg drawn up.  In the morning all stones should pass in the stool.”  Paul recommends you do this flush with the guidance of an experienced and qualified health practitioner.  (So if you have a Naturopath or health practitioner, check in with them about this flush.)  In Paul’s experience, this remedy has made gall-bladder operations unnecessary in thousands of likely candidates.

Both Bill and I use this flush every few years, and it’s always been easy on our bodies. This time around, Bill didn’t have stones, only sand and sediment were flushed out. This good news indicates he eats a healthy diet of whole, organic foods.

    Just found your blog and love it. I would like to try the cleanse. Is thee any limit to the number of joices you can/should have in a day?

    • Hi Denyse,
      Lovely to hear from you. You can drink as much juice as you wish. We found 3 glasses a day to be very satisfying. If we felt hungry, we would have a piece of fruit, like an apple, or sometimes I would make a sprout salad with sprouts, cucumber and a few cherry tomatoes.

      I feel the very best when juicing. It seems to send the nutrients right to every cell.

  2. I have one more question. I’m going to also try the gallbladder flush. Do you do that at the end of the 3 day cleanse or does it not matter?

  3. Connie, I would like to try your juicing cleanse recipes, however I do not have a juicer. Would blending the ingredients in a blender (I have a Vitamix blender) give you similar results? Thank you.

    • Hello Kasia, Thanks for Your question. The Vitamix is great and it keeps all the pulp in the juice. That gives the body work to Digest. How you can use it is to filter the pulp through a cheese cloth and squeeze out all the juice. The pulp is good boiled up to make a vegetable Stock With water for soups or as the base of lentil dishes.
