Granola

This is the simplest of granolas. Hearty and flavourful without any processed sweeteners or oil. We make it without "all the trimmings" so you can add the special granola bits as you serve it, like nuts, seeds, coconut or raisins, and keep it different and unique each time.

Granola

  • 10 cups of rolled oats or a combination of rolled oats and rolled rye
  • 1½ cups date paste (recipe below)

Pour the rolled flakes into a large mixing bowl.

Add the date paste and mix thoroughly. I find it quick and easy to use my hands but you can mix it in with a large spoon as well.

Pour the mixture into a large baking dish so it is not more than 1 inch thick to achieve uniform roasting and bake at 350º F. for 20 minutes.

Remove from the oven and stir the mix to keep it from burning on the edges. Return to the oven and continue baking until brown, another 15 minutes or so.

Enjoy.

Date Paste

  • 1½ cups dates
  • 1 cup filtered water

Add both ingredients in to a high-speed blender and blend on high for 60-90 seconds.

This makes more than needed for 1 batch of granola, but you need this much quantity to mix well in the blender.

Store in the fridge for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
